Ganesh Chaturthi, also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi, is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed god of wisdom and prosperity. According to Hindu mythology, Goddess Parvati created Lord Ganesha out of sandalwood paste to guard her while she took a bath. She breathed life into the statue, and Ganesha came to life. When Lord Shiva, Parvati's husband, returned and tried to enter the house, Ganesha, unaware of his identity, blocked his way. A fierce battle ensued, and in a fit of rage, Lord Shiva beheaded Ganesha.

Upon realizing her mistake and seeing her son beheaded, Goddess Parvati was inconsolable. To appease her, Lord Shiva promised to bring Ganesha back to life. He sent his followers to find the head of the first living being they came across, which turned out to be an elephant. The head was fixed onto Ganesha's body, and he was resurrected with an elephant head, becoming the beloved Lord Ganesha.

This story symbolizes Lord Ganesha's wisdom, devotion to his mother, and his unique appearance. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India, where idols of Lord Ganesha are worshipped, and devotees seek his blessings for success, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles in their lives. The festival typically lasts for ten days, and on the final day, the idols are immersed in water, marking the grand conclusion of the celebration.
