Papankusa Ekadashi Vrata Katha.

Papankusha Ekadashi is an auspicious day observed during the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase of the moon) in the Hindu month of Ashwin (September-October). The term "Papankusha" means the destroyer of sins, and it is believed that those who observe this Ekadashi are absolved of all their past sins and attain the blessings of Lord Vishnu. The day is dedicated to Lord Padmanabha, a form of Lord Vishnu, and devotees seek His grace for liberation from their karmic debts and ultimate salvation.

The Papankusha Ekadashi Vrata Katha is centered around a sinner named Krodhan. Krodhan was a cruel hunter who lived a life of violence, hunting animals, and committing many sins. As his death approached, he became terrified and sought refuge in a sage named Angira. The sage, moved by Krodhan's plea for redemption, advised him to observe the Papankusha Ekadashi fast with sincerity and devotion. Following the sage's advice, Krodhan fasted on Papankusha Ekadashi, worshipped Lord Vishnu, and sincerely repented for his sins.

As a result of his observance, Krodhan was forgiven of all his wrongdoings. Lord Vishnu, pleased with his devotion, granted him liberation (moksha) and the promise of eternal peace in His abode, Vaikuntha. The vrata emphasizes the transformative power of devotion and repentance. It shows how even the gravest sinner can attain salvation if they sincerely seek the Lord's grace and follow the righteous path.

Devotees observing Papankusha Ekadashi fast from sunrise to the next day’s sunrise, abstaining from grains, pulses, and certain other foods. They spend the day in prayers, reciting Vishnu Sahasranama, and reading scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita. By performing this fast, devotees believe they are freed from their sins, attain peace, and secure divine blessings for prosperity and spiritual growth .
